Privacy Policy
Short version: ProNotes collects no data about you. It has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and makes no network requests. Your notes never leave your computer unless you move them yourself.
What ProNotes stores, and where
- Your notes are saved as a small text file named
.ProNotesinside the folder the note belongs to. You own these files; you can open, copy or delete them like any other file. - App settings — the folders you chose, note positions and which reminders have been shown — are kept in the app's own private folder on your computer.
- If a folder is synced by a service you use (iCloud Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox…), its
.ProNotesfile is synced by that service like any other file in the folder, under that service's privacy terms.
Permissions ProNotes asks for
- Folder access (Mac and Windows): only to the folders you choose, to read and write their
.ProNotesfiles. - Screen Recording (Mac): used only to read the titles of Finder windows so each note is placed on the right window. ProNotes never captures, saves or sends images of your screen.
- Finder extension (Mac): shows the task-count badge on folder icons and the "Add ProNotes note" menu item.
- Notifications: for the deadline reminders you set.
Data shared with others
None. ProNotes does not sell, share or transmit personal data. Purchases are handled entirely by the Mac App Store or Microsoft Store under their own privacy policies; we receive no personal information from them beyond aggregate sales reports.
Children
ProNotes collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
